More than 500 flights to and from the UK have been cancelled following a “technical issue” with air traffic control.
The National Air Traffic Services (NATS), the nation’s main supplier of air traffic control providers, stated controllers are having to enter flight plans manually because of a fault with its methods.
It apologised for the disruption brought on by the failure, which is inflicting vital delays at UK airports. Shortly after 3.30pm, NATS stated the technical concern had been “identified and remedied”.
The BBC has reported greater than 500 UK flights, 232 departing and 271 arriving, have been cancelled as of 2.30pm in keeping with knowledge collated by aviation analytics agency Cirium.
Many extra are more likely to be delayed with passengers advised to anticipate waits on the tarmac of as much as 12 hours.
Transport Secretary Mark Harper tweeted: “UK airspace remains open but traffic flow restrictions are in place. @NATS is working at pace to fix this and Aviation Minister @CharlotteV and I are doing all we can to support them. In the meantime, passengers should contact their airline for up to date flight information.”
