Chaos at UK airports as nationwide border system fails

A nationwide border system subject has hit digital gates at British airports, inflicting chaos for holidaymakers and passengers arriving into the nation.
Images on social media confirmed lengthy queues constructing at main airports, with many seeking to journey forward of a public vacation Monday and with faculties additionally on half-term breaks.
The failure means vacationers will need to have their passports checked manually somewhat than by machine.
“We are aware of a nationwide border system issue affecting arrivals into the UK,” a Home Office spokesperson advised CNN in an announcement on Saturday.
“We are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible and are liaising with port operators and airlines to minimise disruption for travellers,” the spokesperson added.
A London Heathrow airport spokesperson stated: “We are conscious of a nationwide subject impacting the eGates, that are operated by Border Force.
“This subject is impacting numerous ports of entry and isn’t Heathrow particular. Our groups are working intently with Border Force to assist resolve the issue as shortly as potential and we now have further colleagues readily available to handle queues and supply passenger welfare.
Lucy Morton from the Immigration Services Union advised BBC’s Radio 4 that relying on the airport 60% to 80% of vacationers undergo e-gates.
“There’s no impact on national security, in fact, actually it will improve national security because every single arriving passenger will be seen by a human being, not a machine,” she stated.
“But it will build queues and that in itself builds its own set of problems. People becomes frustrated, they take it out on the staff. The staff get verbally abused, on occasion staff get physically abused, they get hit. All of this will start to cascade through the day.”
