Civil servants to hold fresh strikes after ‘insulting’ pay offer
Union bosses have warned of a “new wave of sustained strike action” after labelling a Government pay offer for civil servants “insulting”.
The Government in the present day revealed new steerage for Whitehall departments on pay rises in 2023/24. It states that “departments are able to make average pay awards up to 4.5 per cent” with some “flexibility” to go as excessive as 5 per cent.
Mark Serwotka, the overall secretary of the PCS union, stated the numbers will “increase the likelihood” of fresh walkouts.
He stated: “This insulting proposal will serve only to anger PCS members, stiffen their resolve ahead of the forthcoming re-ballot and increase the likelihood of a new wave of sustained strike action.”
