Gavin Williamson told to apologise over bullying texts to chief whip

Sir Gavin Williamson, the previous training secretary, has apologised to MPs and can bear behavioural coaching after a parliamentary inquiry concluded that he had bullied Wendy Morton, the federal government’s former chief whip.

Morton had complained to Daniel Greenberg, the parliamentary requirements commissioner, over a collection of textual content messages despatched by Williamson through which he accused her of intentionally excluding him from the Queen’s funeral. In one, Williamson, himself a former chief whip, warned Morton that there was a “price for everything” and accused her of utilizing the Queen’s funeral to punish Tory MPs who weren’t seen as supportive of Liz Truss, the prime minister.

Greenberg initially cleared Williamson of the cost that his conduct amounted to bullying or harassment however the Independent
