The Prime Minister believes protests towards Israel participating within the Eurovision Song Contest are “wrong” and among the scenes have been “outrageous”, Downing Street stated.
Pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered in Malmo, Sweden, yesterday to protest towards Israel’s participation within the competitors because the battle in Gaza continues.
There have been some requires a boycott of Eurovision in response to Israel’s entry. A spokesman for Rishi Sunak stated that the Prime Minister condemned the protests and described the requires a boycott as “unfair”.
Asked about Mr Sunak’s views on the protests, a No 10 spokesman stated: “The Prime Minister thinks that these protests are incorrect and among the scenes we’ve seen have been outrageous.
“Just as we share the deep concern over the humanitarian disaster of Gaza, and we increase this usually, with regards to this debate round Eurovision and these protests we’re extremely conscious of the Israelis and likewise Jewish folks world wide who love Eurovision and their emotions seeing this within the aftermath of what was atrocious terror assault and whereas hostages are nonetheless being held by Hamas, and he would urge folks to contemplate this when repeating these unfair requires a boycott.”
She added that whereas there was “always the right for peaceful protest”, “in terms of the Prime Minister’s opinion at the scenes and whether it is right to call for a boycott of their act. No, he thinks that’s wrong.”
