LHC to resume hearing petition against anchorperson Imran Riaz’s arrest tomorrow as his whereabouts remain unknown – Pakistan

Speaking to Dawn.com, Riaz’s lawyer Advocate Rana Maroof Khan stated that his counsel was arrested by the Punjab police below the Maintenance of Public Order guidelines — which permits preemptive detentions to guarantee legislation and order — on the Sialkot airport on May 11 — two days after violent protests broke out throughout the nation following PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s arrest — and brought to the Cantt police station.

“The official added the government had withdrawn the detention order after the anchorperson submitted an affidavit and he had said the anchorperson was released from jail,” Maroof stated, including that the courtroom had expressed displeasure over the assertion and directed the official to submit CCTV footage of the journalist leaving Sialkot jail.

He instructed Dawn.com that the courtroom will resume hearing the case tomorrow (May 15). “We hope sanity will prevail and Imran Riaz will be either released or brought to court on Monday.”
