A post office in a Devon city has been compelled to close after Royal Mail withdrew supply companies from the constructing.

Post Office Ltd confirmed its department in Lynton would close on 22 December.

Royal Mail stated it closed the Lynton supply office, which was located inside the post office constructing on Lee Road, as a result of it was not “fit for purpose”.

Postmaster Jo Fuller stated the lack of revenue from lease had made the post office unviable and she is going to now promote the constructing.

Lynton has had a post office for greater than 100 years.

Ms Fuller stated: “It’s very unhappy instances, very unhappy for the group as nicely.

“We’re gutted that we have had to do it.”

She stated the Lynton post office was uncommon in that it housed different companies within the constructing.

These days most post workplaces are stores with a post office counter.

The Royal Mail supply office generated a couple of third of the Lynton post office’s revenue by way of lease.

The closure of the Lynton department means residents will want to drive greater than 20 minutes to go to the closest department in Challacombe.

Post Office Ltd stated it was reviewing service provision within the space and it could replace residents when the assessment is completed.

It stated Royal Mail closed the supply office in September and had paid compensation to the postmaster.

A spokesman stated: “Our space supervisor had additionally been working with the postmaster to assist advocate the place overheads may very well be decreased and methods to enhance income.

“We remorse that they’ve made the choice to resign as a postmaster and wish to thank them for the service they’ve offered to their group.”

Royal Mail stated the supply office in Lynton “wasn’t match for goal with restricted welfare for employees”.

“It moved to Barnstaple the place there are acceptable services in place.”

It added there was quite a few post packing containers located close to the Lynton post office.
