Steve Barclay has insisted the Government’s focus is on exonerating the victims of the Post Office scandal and guaranteeing they obtain compensation amid a livid row between Kemi Badenoch and Henry Staunton.
Mr Staunton, the previous chairman of the Post Office, alleged in an interview that Mrs Badenoch mentioned he was being dismissed as a result of somebody wanted to “take the rap” for the dealing with of the Horizon IT scandal.
He additionally mentioned he was advised by a senior civil servant to “stall” spending on compensation to sub-postmasters forward of the following normal election.
Mrs Badenoch, the Business Secretary, vehemently denied the claims and accused Mr Staunton of mendacity. She additionally accused him of a “blatant attempt to seek revenge” following his dismissal.
