Questions are actually turning to a recorded conversation between former Mirror journalist-turned-whistleblower Graham Johnson and then-Trinity Mirror chair David Grigson.
The conversation came about on the Trinity Mirror AGM in 2015, and was recorded by Mr Johnson.
It is now being played to the courtroom.
The journalist introduces himself as having been convicted of cellphone hacking whereas on the Mirror, and claims the apply was occurring on the paper for “many, many years”.
He claims the corporate “chose to cover up” cellphone hacking claims by one other former MGN journalist, David Brown, and asks Mr Grigson to clarify this to shareholders.
Mr Grigson says investigations have been carried out and the corporate has “admitted guilt to those whose phones were hacked”.
The journalist alleges there are “hundreds of claims in the pipeline” and accuses the chair of not being straight with shareholders.
“I am being absolutely straight,” Mr Grigson says.
“Your employees are not being straight with you then,” Mr Johnson replies, including there are “potentially hundreds of claims”.
Mr Grigson acknowledges there may very well be extra claims, however says he would not know this and the corporate will look into it.
He says it will have “no issues with that at all, whatever the financial cost” – however that he can not “work entirely on speculation”.
