BANGKOK, July 19 (Reuters) – Thailand’s Constitutional Court ordered a short lived suspension of prime ministerial candidate Pita Limjaroenrat from parliament on Wednesday after accepting a case towards him alleging he was unqualified to run in a May 14 election.
Pita, who was as a consequence of contest a parliamentary vote on the premiership on Wednesday, has argued his possession of shares in a media firm was not a violation of election guidelines.
He has 15 days to reply, the court stated in an announcement.
Pita’s election-winning Move Forward Party stated the suspension shouldn’t have an effect on Pita’s nomination for the prime ministerial vote, which rival politicians have been looking for to dam him from.
The 42-year-old, U.S.-educated liberal wants the backing of greater than half of the bicameral parliament to be endorsed as the following prime minister, however should overcome fierce resistance from a army at odds along with his celebration’s anti-establishment ambitions.
He misplaced his preliminary bid final week after being blocked by the army-appointed Senate in a joint vote on the premiership.
