The youth are determined to punish us, says Senator Olekina
Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has instructed lawmakers to put together for the worst-case state of affairs because the youth are determined to punish them for not demonstrating management.
Olekina stated he was certain the youth, over the following few months, would present them how they need to be led.
“We have failed because we are corrupt and only care about ourselves. If in the next two months, we meet our fate or we are doomed, so be it, because we surely deserve it,” he stated.
In a video posted on X, the lawmaker stated the youth appear determined to render Members of Parliament each of the National Assembly and Senate and the Judiciary and Executive null and void.
“We turned into animals, people who only care about themselves,” Olekina stated, as he urged legislators to plead for forgiveness from the youth.
The senators alleged that the Executive arm of the federal government is being managed by exterior forces, particularly worldwide lenders.
“They are coming up with policies which are so foreign, which end up destroying the integrity, structures of our nation. Foreign powers come and tell us to convert freehold title into leasehold, and you don’t care about the consequences or the unintended consequences,” he said.
He added that politicians shouldn’t lead only for the sake of it. “Let us care about future generations.
“There is one thing known as intergeneration equity. Anything we do must be for generations to come,” he stated.
Olekina stated MPs ought to keep in mind that they are not the place they are as a result of the President elected them.
“He too went out there and asked for votes. But the moment we get there, you know and I know very well, we are enticed with money. We are given tokens and told to pass this Bill for some little money. You then buy the most expensive bottle of whisky and dine in the best restaurants,” he added.
Olekina stated it’s this behaviour that annoys the youth.
“I watched a woman who just lost a child, cursing us. Is that what we want? Can we look back and ask ourselves if what we are doing is right,” he posed.
He suggested leaders within the legislative arm of presidency to take into consideration the way forward for the nation.
“Let us not just vote for the sake of voting. Let us stop worshipping our party leaders and the Executive.”
