Fears of a rail shutdown this summer time have intensified after hundreds of prepare drivers and Network Rail employees voted overwhelmingly for strike action over pay.

Britain faces the primary nationwide drivers’ strike in 25 years, with insiders fearing that Aslef, the drivers’ union, will co-ordinate action with the RMT and the Transport Salaried Staffs’ Association (TSSA) to deliver most disruption.

On a day of poll outcomes, drivers at Arriva Rail London, Chiltern Railways, Great Western, LNER, Northern Trains, Southeastern, TransPennine Express and West Midlands Trains all voted to walk out.
