US strikes against Kataib Hezbollah targets in Iraq after service members injured in attack
Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin launched a press release on Christmas evening saying US retaliatory strikes had been made on terrorist group Kataib Hezbollah the identical day.
“Today, at President Biden’s route, U.S. army forces performed obligatory and proportionate strikes on three services utilized by Kataib Hezbollah and affiliated teams in Iraq,” Austin said in the statement. “These precision strikes are a response to a sequence of assaults against U.S. personnel in Iraq and Syria by Iranian-sponsored militias, together with an attack by Iran-affiliated Kataib Hezbollah and affiliated teams on Erbil Air Base earlier right now, and supposed to disrupt and degrade capabilities of the Iran-aligned militia teams straight accountable.”
Three American army personnel had been injured in the course of the attack by Kataib Hezbollah terrorists in Iraq on Christmas Day, together with one U.S. servicemember who was critically wounded.
Austin continued in his assertion, “Today’s attack led to a few accidents to U.S. personnel, leaving one service member in essential situation. My prayers are with the courageous Americans who had been injured.”
The protection secretary added, “And let me be clear – the President and I can’t hesitate to take obligatory motion to defend the United States, our troops, and our pursuits. There isn’t any larger precedence. While we don’t search to escalate battle in the area, we’re dedicated and absolutely ready to take additional obligatory measures to guard our folks and our services.”
CENTCOM General Michael Erik Kurilla stated in a press release that the airstrikes are supposed to carry regional actors “accountable.”
