A summer of rail disruption is ready to continue into the autumn after the announcement of further strikes in September.

Train services have been severely hampered across the UK because of a sequence of walkouts between June and August, in long-running disputes over pay, pensions and working conditions.

Royal Mail staff, refuse collection workers and barristers are among the opposite industries to have staged strikes in recent weeks, with tens of thousands involved in industrial action.

Here’s when train strikes are planned in September, which lines will be affected by the walkouts and why they are happening.

When are the train strikes in September 2022?

There are walkouts scheduled on three dates in September, which are being staged by the Aslef, Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) and Transport Salaried Staffs’ Association (TSSA) unions.

First, members of Aslef, the train drivers’ union, are putting at 12 rail firms on Thursday 15 September, alongside RMT members at Network Rail and 14 rail operators, an motion which the union says will “effectively shut down” the community.
